The bumper has taken a severe beating with the powdercoating mostly holding up and the Rubi-skid adequately protecting the weak spots near the radiator and the sway bar motor. … [Read more...]

Destination North: A Sub-Zero Adventure

November 2, 2010 by JPFreek

Spur of the moment! Back in October, a trip to Morocco we had been planning for a few months turned out to be difficult and impossible to accomplish. We needed a new destination to test out our 2007 Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited, and It didn’t take long to decide that turning the map upside down would offer a nice alternative: going north, up to the … [Read more...]

The "Built For Off-Road" Adventure – Part I

October 26, 2010 by JPFreek

At the end of the summer, my family and I headed into the mountains for a long weekend of camping and trail running, along with my heavily modified 2006 LJ Rubicon. In preparation for this trip, I spent hours loading and unloading my Jeep with every camping item we might need along with tools and pertinent spare parts for taking the Rubi on the … [Read more...]

HAM'in About Radio Communication

September 21, 2010 by JPFreek

I made a dumb assumption. A friend of a friend agreed to show me a new trail I’d never traveled before, and we kept the group small: Me in my Jeep, Russ in his Rubicon, and our fearless leader in his Sport. … [Read more...]

Amputee Adventures

September 13, 2010 by JPFreek

Jerry Dickson grins as he shows me the historical marker with the story of a tall tale spinning amputee who always came out of the mountains with a bit of gold. “See, we aren’t the first Disabled Explorers to travel this desert” he says as we enjoy the moment. … [Read more...]

July 26, 2010 by JPFreek

July 19, 2010 by admin

If you’ve never cooked a meal on the engine of your Jeep®, then you have seriously under-estimated the utility potentials of your vehicle. Be prepared to WOW your friends when you pull up to camp, pop open the hood, and sit down to eat while everyone else is trying to light coals or prime the camp stove. … [Read more...]
