Econogreen Trash Bags for Backcountry Adventures

October 20, 2011 by JPFreek

One item that we all carry on our overland adventures is trash bags. It is also an item that none of us wants to see fail, whether it’s inside or strapped outside of your Jeep.

When choosing a bag for carrying out your trash and any trash you find in your travels, both the size of the bag and the thickness of the material both matter. All too often I have seen the average 1mm thick bag leak, tear, or just split open. The problem I have found when shopping for trash bags is that the selection is great but there are very few truly heavy duty ones at the normal outlets we shop at.

Enter the Econogreen Trash Bags by Jig-A-Loo. When I saw these at the SEMA show, it was obvious that they were not your normal “green” bag just by looking at them. After spending a few minutes with the Jig-A-Loo representative, I was sold.

Not only are these trash bags made from recycled material, they are a full 3mm thick. At 42 gallons, they are more than adequate for the weekend or week-long trip. Feel the material, take one and tug at both ends, try to poke a hole in it with your finger and you too will be convinced. In addition, these heavy duty bags will decompose in two years unlike many other plastic products.

The good news is that you can buy these locally at Home Depot and other hardware stores.
