Using a set of MAXTRAX can eliminate the use for a winch in 99% of situations encountered where a winch would be needed. The MAXTRAX offers grip in all conditions, from snow to sand to hard pack rocks. The MAXTRAX come with a set of instructions but they really are not needed. It is obvious at first look at how to use them. They offer great grip on both the top and the bottom of the MAXTRAX.
In snowy conditions where other traction devices fail, the MAXTRAX was able to grip onto even the slipperiest terrain.
At first glance I was a bit turned off by the bright safety orange color, but after my first use in muddy terrain, I became a huge fan of the bright orange. The holes allow for linking several together to make a short track, and stacking them on top of each other acts as a bridging ladder.
MAXTRAX is a must for those that can fit them. The simplicity and ease of use makes recovery a one-man operation without prior training or knowledge of how to use them. Other than avoiding wheel spin (written right on them), it’s a no brainer.
