Mountain Khakis for your Outdoor Adventures

January 9, 2011 by JPFreek

Mountain Khakis is an outdoor clothing line based out of Jackson, Wyoming.   They offer several styles of clothing including pants, shirts, and hoodies, both for men, women, and kids.  But their primary focus is the pants including a classic original, cottonwood cords (for women), alpine utility pant, and several other styles.   I had the opportunity to try out the cords, the capris, and the original khakis over a period of several months and during many outdoor adventures.

I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical when I got the word from JPFreek staff that we would be gear testing Mountain Khakis pants.  I have a hard enough time finding pants that fit properly.  So with a less than an open mind, I began browsing the Mountain Khakis website.  I finally settled on a pair of the Cottonwood Cords and the Cargo Capris.  Because I knew I didn’t want to guess at the sizing, I called the Mountain Khakis customer service line. I was pleasantly surprised to find myself discussing the product with a representative who obviously knew the product and was extremely knowledgeable about the sizing (my biggest concern).

After a great conversation, I eagerly awaited my new pants. The pants arrived just when the rep said they would…..and they looked great!  The Cottonwood Cords I chose were an absolutely gorgeous deep slate blue, and even after being shipped from Wyoming, they were wrinkle free. The fit was perfect. In fact, they were the most comfortable pants I had ever put on. The representative warned me that the Cottonwoods run a little big, so on her advice, I ordered one size smaller than I usually wear. The slight difference in sizing from the standard khakis is explained by the fact that the Cottonword Cords are slightly stretchy. The Cottonwood Cords, with their barely flaired legs and below-the-waist fit, are fashionable without being too trendy. While I’ve worn the Cottonwood Cords on several outdoor outings, I generally wear them to work. The durability is phenomenal and even after numerous washings, they show no signs of wear. More importantly, the Cottonwood Cords are the most wrinkle free pant I have ever owned.
